Are Scary Spiders Invading Your Home?

It may be Halloween, but when it comes to indoor spiders, it’s a good idea to proceed with caution. The problem with spiders is that they bite, and depending on the spider, their bites can seriously harm the victim. In some cases, spider bites can be so dangerous that they cause death. Whereas bites and stings from mosquitoes, fleas, red ants and even hornets can cause itching, burning and pain, you are not likely to die or lose a limb because of the encounter.

Brown Recluse Spider

Brown recluse spider bites can cause necrosis. Necrosis occurs when body tissues die, and once they die, the tissues cannot be healed or regrown. The only treatment is surgical removal of the dead tissue. When the bite occurs, the victim may feel a mild sting. Later, there is inflammation of the area where the bite occurred, followed by intense pain. Nausea, fever and a rash may occur. Although death is unusual in adults, brown recluse spider bites can cause death in children.

Black Window Spider

A black widow spider bite will rarely kill you, but it will make your life unpleasant. The bite feels like a pinprick; this is followed by swelling and redness. After several hours, pain and stiffness set in which may or may not be accompanied by abdominal pain, fever, nausea, vomiting and chills.

Spiders may be a popular Halloween theme, but they’re best kept outside. Although most spiders are harmless, the safest course is to call on your local pest control experts if you notice that these bugs are starting to take up residence. When it comes to bites that could be deadly, it’s not worth taking any chances.
